The use of boric oxide in container glass: factory trials V3 052-058
Factory trials have been conducted to examine the effects of boric oxide on the melting and refining of soda-lime glasses. The trials were carried out at two different bottle factories of La Compagnie de Saint-Gobain (Vauxrot and Genlis), each melting a green glass for wine-bottles. Records were kept of production rates, efficiency, rejects, furnace temperatures, fuel consumption, and physical and chemical properties of the glass. The results indicate that under suitable conditions the use of small quantities of boric oxide in the glass can result in increased output and better fuel utilization
