Observations on the reactions in a red lead-potash-sand batch during melting V3 046-051

The reactions occurring during the melting of a batch containing 100 parts of sand, 60 parts of red lead, and 40 parts of potash have been studied. It seems probable that the sand-potash reaction proceeds more rapidly than the sand-lead oxide reaction when the first liquid phases appear. The separation of the phases rich in lead oxide is improbable when a well-mixed batch of the actual composition is melted to a homogeneous glass.
